Palm webOS 1.4 update hits Verizon’s Pre Plus and Pixi Plus

According to a little late night tweet from Palm — and the update screen on our device — the stacked new webOS 1.4 update is making its way out into the world for the company’s Verizon-flavored devices. That’s right, Plussers — video recording (and editing) is just a small download away. So why are you still reading this? Palm Pixi now $50 on Sprint

Likely a direct counterstrike to Verizon’s $79.99 Pixi Plus , Sprint has dropped the retail price of its original WiFi-less Pixi all the way down to $49.99 after $100 mail-in rebate on a new two-year contract. As you might recall, the Pixi debuted at $100, but now that the Pre’s leaving it in the dust with both high-quality gaming and Flash support, a little more price separation between the two makes a lot of sense. Alright, Sprint, strong work — now you’ve just got to drop the Pre a few bucks to distance it from Verizon’s Pre Plus and you’ll be good to go. webOS updated to version 1.4: now supports Flash

There is a new version of webOS available to the owners of a Palm Pre or Palm Pixi smartphone, which will fix a lot of bugs as well as bring some surprises. With the webOS v1.4 the Time Zone bug is fixed, as well as the bluetooth car-kit transition problem. Other bugs that were fixed include the random browser formatting, and a Missing Contact issue. As for the new features, the Palm Pre owners get the Flash support in the browser which will become available as a plug-in, and other features include an improved notification and email system, and a better performance when making …

Palm says long taps are ‘meta-taps,’ impresses Solaris admins worldwide

What do you call a long press in the gesture area on a webOS phone? Well, it doesn’t matter, because unless you said “meta-tap” you’re wrong. That’s what Palm has decreed such a touch will be called and so it shall be called — at least officially. A long press in that area plus a key, like X, C or V to cut, copy, or paste, has been given this moniker by Palm in something of a nod to the concept of a UNIX meta key, a keyboard modifier that works like the Apple Command key or Windows Alt and Ctrl keys. Why bother with the clarification? Well, for one thing, “meta-tap X” is a heck of a lot easier to type than “hold your finger in …

WebOS 1.4 hitting Sprint’s Pre and Pixi on February 15th?

Good news for nonplussed (in more ways that one ) Pre and Pixi owners: come the day after Valentine’s, it looks like you’ll be able to capture your loved ones in moving pictures format! This comes from an alleged Sprint technician who reportedly took the above screencap promising a firmware update with all the features we’ve heard debuting as webOS 1.4 , except for Flash support on the Pre. Note our use of “alleged” and “reportedly,” though — we can’t independently confirm this image, so take it with a grain of salt. Still, February was the previously-mentioned release date, and when better to release than just after the halfway mark of the month? …

Palm likely calling its new Verizon models Pre Plus and Pixi Plus

We’ve alluded to this a couple times already, but Boy Genius Report is coming out today and saying that Verizon’s webOS launch devices early next year will indeed be called the “Pre Plus” and “Pixi Plus.” We’re able to independently confirm that this is the intel out in the field right now — so unless Big Red calls an audible, these are the names you should be keeping an eye on as you’re scanning the shelves. The report goes on to say that Verizon’s models are the same size as Sprint’s, but as we’ve already seen in the FCC, these new versions are going to be supercharged in one way or another — at the…

Sprint says webOS 1.3.5 is hitting the Pre today

Well, lookie here: it’s not up on Palm’s support site yet, but Sprint is showing a release date of December 28 — that’s today, by the way — for webOS 1.3.5 on the Pre . This is a pretty nifty little upgrade, you might recall — nifty enough to get none other than CEO Jon Rubinstein to name-drop it during the company’s most recent earnings call — thanks to the removal of the platform’s troublesome app storage limit, better performance, better battery life (particularly in weak cell coverage), and a host of bugfixes sure to put a smile on your pretty face. Let us know how those updates go, alright? [Thanks, Gon Kim] Sprint says webOS 1.3.5 is hitting …

Palm Pixi clears FCC with Verizon frequencies and WiFi in tow

If you were looking for just one more reason to ditch Sprint then this could be it. A CDMA-flavored Palm Pixi just cleared the FCC — yes, another one — and we can say with confidence it’s not coming to Sprint this time around. Better yet, Palm’s model P121EWW matches up with that P121 code we saw leaked a while back for Big Red (Sprint’s model is P120EWW ), and this sucker got tested for 802.11b/g WiFi. Looks like that Sprint ad touting the Pixi’s non-existent WiFi was more than just wishful thinking. With webOS-powered Palm…
