New Four Thirds Camera From Panasonic?

Is Panasonic lining up a new Four Thirds (not Micro Four Thirds) DSLR camera to be released sometime soon? From the patent application , you can see that it will have live view mode, along with the traditional optical viewfinder. Other specs include a CMOS sensor, surprisingly no video recording, and a vibration reduction feature. In case you aren’t familiar with it, the Four Thirds standard retains a mirror arrangement and interchangeable lenses, but the size of image sensor and camera body can be much smaller than your normal DSLR cameras. There isn’t any pricing or release date revealed just yet, but perhaps Panasonic will be sharing more information on it at CES 2010. Remember to follow our coverage of…

Sony debuts Alpha A850, A550 and A500 DSLRs

Sony’s really hitting two sweet spots this morning with its new (or, newly confirmed ) full-frame A850 (pictured) and mid-range A550 and A500 DSLR additions to the Alpha family. The rumors were basically dead on , with the A850 offering a slight reduction to the A900’s skillset while keeping on the exact same 24.6 megapixel sensor — and nabbing a $1,000 or so price cut in the process (it’s now landing at around $2,000). The A550 and A500, meanwhile, fill in any perceived gaps in the Alpha line with 14.2 and 12.3 megapixel sensors, respectively. They also both score tilt-out LCDs akin to the poorly-received A380, with the A550 sporting a much higher resolution screen than its …

Sony Japan announces 5 new Blu-ray recorder/HDD combos

The flood of video recording devices coming out of Japan doesn’t want to end. Sony says they tried to focus especially on usability and design with these machines. The new line consists of the BDZ-EX200 (2TB HDD/$2,800/pictured above), BDZ-RX100 (1TB HDD/$1,800), BDZ-RX50 (500GB HDD/$1,500), BDZ-RX30 (320GB HDD/$1,200) and the BDZ-RS10 (320GB HDD/$1,000). Sony added Sky PerfecTV support for some …

Goodnight, sweet Mino: Music Video shot end-to-end on an iPhone 3GS

Hm - perhaps those iPhone 3GS mounts aren’t as silly as we thought (Not really- they’re still silly.) When videographer Kenny Mosher was tasked with shooting a music video for acoustic-folk band BJSR, he decided to skip the usual rig for something a bit more relevant in the moment: the iPhone 3GS. Now, this music video isn’t the first of its kind; rapper GOSHone recorded one on a jailbroken iPhone 3G, months before Apple ever condoned video recording on any of their mobile handsets. That said, it’s the first we know of shot through an Apple-endorsed method, and it’s a pretty nifty video at that. Could it be that the iPhone 3…

New iPhone 3G S announced at WWDC

Expectations weren’t dashed during Apple’s World Wide Developers Conference as a new iPhone was indeed announced. Dubbed the iPhone 3G S, the new model will be rolled out on June 18 in the US. Eighty more countries will get it in August. The iPhone 3G S looks exactly like the iPhone 3G, but it’s apparently much faster. Fun fact: the “S” in the name stands for “speed”. On average, it’s reportedly twice as fast as the 3G and data speeds have been increased to 7.2Mbps HSDPA . In keeping with the “speed” concept, holding down the Home button activates a voice control feature that lets …

Mr. Blurrycam takes new iPhone’s features for a test drive?

There are two sides to this coin, the way we see it. On the one hand, the handful of pictures that have just popped over on UMPC Fever demo many of the features we’re expecting to see in new iPhone hardware this summer — magnetic compass , autofocus camera , video recording capability, and a battery percentage meter in the status bar. On the other hand, having a good feel for those rumored features makes it that much easier to mock up ridiculously blurry shots of ‘em in action. The compass seems a little overdone, but then again, it’s not necessarily out of place considering the direction Apple has taken its voice recorder app in 3.0 , so we’re going to play the cautiously optimistic…

Sick of waiting? Android 1.5 Cupcake manual install package available now

A man once told me that I could not have my Cupcake and eat it too. He was obviously dead wrong. Today’s big buzz on the Android front is that the official OTA install package for Android 1.5 (lovingly known around the internets as ‘Cupcake’ update) is now available for direct download and manual patching. For those of us who have waited patiently for the official patch but just can’t wait another day for it to come over-the-air, it is our day of rejoicing. At long last, we get to sink our teeth in to that green sugar-coated muffin, complete with video recording…

Samsung Jack comes to AT&T on May 19, $99.99 on contract

The BlackJack II’s been looking a little long in the tooth for a while now, and it’s been made pretty clear that the Epix isn’t the direct replacement — so what is? Behold the i637 Jack (not to be confused with the… uh, Jack ), which has just been made official with a 3.2 megapixel camera and video recording, AGPS, WiFi, microSD expansion, 256MB of RAM, triband HSDPA / quadband EDGE, and the all-too-typical QVGA display. Like its forebears, the Jack naturally features a full QWERTY keyboard; it’ll launch with Windows Mobile 6.1 but will be fully upgradeable to 6.5. Look for it in stores on May 19 for $99.99 on a new two-year contract after rebate. AT&T’s already got a unit (not to say that should come …

T-Mobile G1 owners to get Android v1.5 Cupcake update next week (For real this time)

After a somewhat steady stream of T-Mobile USA customers reported that the Android “Cupcake” update had hit their G1s last week , all went silent. Not everyone had gotten their updates, and it seemed as if the rollout had suddenly stopped. Whether this first batch of updates was a mistake, we’re not sure - but at least now we know when it’s coming for everyone. The update will officially begin rolling out at the end of next week, with roll-outs continuing through the month. Yeah, we know - that’s about as vague as it comes, but it’s good to know that Cupcake is finally on the way. It’s been a long time coming, but the …

Samsung Omnia HD i8910 reviewed in the glow of the AMOLED screen

Whether you call it OmniaHD , i8910 HD , or even “Timmy Tim” (hey, it could happen), Samsung’s AMOLED–infused smartphone is a winner, if the fine lads at Phone Arena are to be believed. Points go to its HD video recording and playback, a surprisingly good battery life, and a form factor that’s not too hard on the pocket, measuring in at just a wee bit taller and thicker than the HTC Touch HD. Not everything’s sunshine and rainbows, though, as trying to use it in direct sunlight’s a lost cause and the phone is a magnet for fingerprints. Still, those are pretty minor in comparison, and this is…
