Kalkhoff’s pedal-assist electric bicycles now available in North America — cruisers unite!

Europeans have been cruising around on Kalkhoff e-bikes for millenniums now, but ye old Americans have been forced to either walk, pedal similar two-wheeled machines with our own energy, or fire up the HEMI-based Charger while throwing a finger up at Ma Earth. Thankfully, Portland’s own Greenlight Bikes is doing what no one else would: importing these beauts for enjoyment here on US soil. What’s most interesting is that the company’s range of pedal-assist electric bicycles (or pedelecs, for those “in the know”) don’t look much different than the Schwinn Windwood Cruiser that your dad still uses to fetch the mail with, but believe it or not, an electric motor is …

Verizon getting Google’s Nexus One in Spring 2010

Oh boy, you heard that right. Google’s slinging its Nexus One to Verizon in the Spring for an undisclosed amount. At a purchase page that went live during the company’s product launch event in Mountain View, users are notified that the phone will soon be available on America’s largest carrier. Two things are immediately interesting here — for starters, it’s not coming (right away, at least) to bump heads with the iPhone on AT&T, and secondly, Google is openly suggesting that you buy Motorola’s (as in, not HTC’s) Droid now if you just can’t wait a day longer for some of that Android goodness. If AT&T wasn’t scared , it should be now. [Thanks to everyone who sent…

Rumor: Hypothetical hybrid GSM-CDMA iPhone for Verizon nowhere near production

Topics: Rumors , iPhone Last week we covered the possibility that the iPhone would get a hybrid chip allowing it to work on CDMA and UTMS carriers (like Verzion and AT&T) simultaneously. Today, Appleinsider is citing industry analyst Ashok Kumar who says that such a chip hasn’t reached field trial status, and that the lead time required for this type of device makes him think consumers won’t see it in 2010. Kumar goes on to suggest that this new “worldmode” chip would be more likely to show up in 2011. While it would be ideal for Apple to have one model of iPhone that would work on nearly all wireless providers in the world, the technology just doesn’t appear to be there at this…

The Next Step For Twitter Lists — Entire Populations

[Ireland] Social media consultants Simplyzesty started using Twitter Lists to list blogs. However, a brainwave has lead them to take Twitter Lists to their logical conclusion: creating lists of Twitter users in entire countries. They’ve launched a Twitter list for the UK and the list of users in Ireland is currently going crazy. They call it “crowdsourcing populations”. Who knows – this could end up being a sort of crowd-sourced yellow pages/people directory. A couple of hours ago they launched a USA version with a script built to make the listings automatic. The plan is to do is to cover the USA in 72 hours. Crunch Network : CrunchBoard because it&#
