Apple gets a patent on smart screen bezels

Apple might have finally released the iPad , but the rumor mill is already on to prognosticating about the next rev — and as usual, Apple’s patents and patent applications are everyone’s favorite place to start. (And for good reason, really — that very first design patent we inititally noticed way back in 2004 is exactly what the iPad looks like, down to the bezel and Dock connector.) The latest tidbit is a patent granted earlier this week on an intelligent touch-sensitive bezel, which would essentially extend the touchpanel beyoned the edges of the screen to create an entire border of context-specific soft buttons — the iPod app might have playback controls at the bottom, while Safari could put the navigation bar down there and Pages …

HTC’s TouchB gets demonstrated, featurephone status confirmed (video)

This isn’t going to be fun, so we’ll just say it and get it over with: the HTC Touch.B isn’t the updated Android smartphone we’d been hoping for . As it turns out it isn’t even a smartphone, relegated to the realm of the featurephone by running Qualcomm’s BrewMP OS. Full Flash support is nice, and we must say the UI has a charming, simple look to it, but it all looks a little… limited, and that screen seems awfully small given the size of the phone now that it’s been turned on. See for yourself: there’s a quick video demo after the break to get you primed for this one to ship sometime next year. HTC Rome aka HTC Touch.B, first photos

Pictures of the HTC Touch.B (codenamed HTC Rome) have surfaced. The short story is that it is similar to an HTC Touch 2, except that it would run on Android instead of Windows Mobile. There’s not a lot of information right now, but MobiFrance has promised to tell us more about it by tomorrow. Permalink: HTC Rome aka HTC Touch.B, first photos from Ubergizmo | Hot: Palm Pixi Review

Apple And Android Now Make Up 75 Percent Of U.S. Smartphone Web Traffic

When it comes to the mobile Web, increasingly there are only two mobile platforms which matter: Apple and Android. According to AdMob’s October, 2009 mobile metrics report , the iPhone/iPod Touch and Android phones accounted for 75 percent of mobile Web traffic in the U.S., as measured by all the mobile ad requests it tracks. That number is up from a combined 65 percent in September, 2009. The iPhone is miles ahead of everyone else, but Android is quickly rising as a strong second. While Android phones managed to increase their share from 17 percent in September, 2009 to 20 percent in October, 2009, the iPhone and iPod Touch gained even more, going from 48 percent to 55 percent share. Meanwhile, during that same month the Blackberry ’s mobile…

Amidio’s Touch DJ app stuffs a turntable into your iPhone (video)

Not kosher with getting a handset tailor made for DJing ? How’s about transforming your existing iPhone into that very device when the mood strikes you? Hailed as the first true DJ MP3 iPhone / iPod touch app in the world, Amidio’s $19.99 Touch DJ program (available now) enables users to independently manipulate two MP3 or M4A files, including scratching, looping, positioning, equalization, effects and pitching. The “visual mixing” requires all sorts of tapping and sliding, but the on-screen UI seems pretty elegant from what we’ve seen. The only real knock on this is that there’s currently no way to get music from the iTunes library into the program; instead, you’ll be forced to reload …

Samsung to launch the Mythic and Flight for AT&T on Nov. 8th

Another week, another truckload of Samsung devices dumped onto the shelves. This week’s Samsung shipment brings two new TouchWiz-based touchscreen handsets: the Mythic, and the Flight. Before we dive into the specs, we gotta give Samsung some grief for the names. Not because they’re bad – in fact, I really, really like both of these names. So much that I wonder why the hell Samsung is giving them to two random TouchWiz handsets. I mean, come on: LG has to resort to calling one of their best selling phones “ Cookie “, and you throw away Mythic? For shame! Anyway, on to the handsets: Samsung Mythic: TouchWiz core (in other words…
