Palm likely calling its new Verizon models Pre Plus and Pixi Plus

We’ve alluded to this a couple times already, but Boy Genius Report is coming out today and saying that Verizon’s webOS launch devices early next year will indeed be called the “Pre Plus” and “Pixi Plus.” We’re able to independently confirm that this is the intel out in the field right now — so unless Big Red calls an audible, these are the names you should be keeping an eye on as you’re scanning the shelves. The report goes on to say that Verizon’s models are the same size as Sprint’s, but as we’ve already seen in the FCC, these new versions are going to be supercharged in one way or another — at the…

Video: The LG eXpo’s projector accessory gets demoed

Outside of a completely simulated appearance in a commercial , we’ve been hard-pressed in finding any video of the LG eXpo’s projector attachment in action. We expected to see some hit the Tubes after the handset launched last week – alas, the projector accessory still hasn’t hit the shelves . Fortunately, the guys over at MobileSyrup have managed to scrounge one up north of the border. Their verdict? It “looks good” (looks a bit dim to us, even in the blacked out room) but the projection unit gets surprisingly warm with use. That’s probably pretty unavoidable given the concept of slamming a projector …

Sony Ericsson Satio Gets New Firmware

Those of you who own a Sony Ericsson Satio will certainly know the problems that the phone has, and those problems resulted in the phone being pulled off the shelves . The good news is that Sony Ericsson seems to have released a new firmware for the unbranded units, which means that your unit might not need to be recalled to be fixed, though Sony Ericsson has admitted that the power-down problem can’t be fixed over-the-air. Despite the updated firmware, retailers such as Carphone Warehouse still haven’t put the phone back on sale. For those users …

GPS Prices Will Drop Even Lower for Black Friday

If you shelled out hundreds of dollars for a new GPS navigation device a couple of years ago, it may drive you crazy to see what they’re selling for on Black Friday. In response to changes in the market, portable navigation devices (PNDs) will go for as little as $59 for a TomTom at Wal-Mart and $99 for a Garmin at Best Buy. Radio Shack lists the Mio M400 for $79.99. Those are bound to be hot tickets when stores open Friday. “Typically, doorbuster deals tend to be loss leaders designed to attract store traffic,” said Steve Koenig, director of industry analysis for the Consumer Electronics Association in Arlington, Va. “The idea being to get you to the store to buy other merchandise.” Supplies Limited But don’t …

Viral Loop: Using Facebook And The iPhone To Promote Something Called A ‘Book’

Writing a book in 2009 is a tricky thing to pull off. Never mind the research, the interviews, or the writing , but then you have to face facts: who reads in 2009? Unless you’re Dan Brown or Stephen King or Glenn Beck, odds are your book, no matter how thorough or well-written, isn’t exactly going to fly off the shelves. What will fly off the virtual shelves, though, is an iPhone App. You see where I’m headed. Adam Penenberg, who’s a contributing writer over at Fast Company magazine (and an old professor of mine from back in my NYU days), has developed an iPhone and Facebook App called “Viral Loop” to help raise awareness of his latest book, Viral Loop…

Nokia N900 press shot trickles onto the interwebs

See that image up above? Looks like our mockups from waaaaay back in May were about as spot on as it gets - though the in-the-flesh shots from a few days ago already proved that. Though there’s not much left to be revealed at this point, the fact that the above promo shot is all wrapped up and being leaked further cements the idea that Nokia will be announcing the N900 at Nokia World in just a little over a week. It’s also the first time we’ve seen the “N900″ text appear on the device, indicating that that’ll be the name it hits the shelves with. Remember folks: this one’s supposed to be …

LG GM750 “Layla” gets Wi-Fi certified, details leak

It’s becoming a standard process at this point: First, BigPhoneCompany submits their new handset to the Wi-Fi Alliance. Wi-Fi Alliance approves it, and throws it into their big list of Certified Products. Eagle eyed mobile mavens prowl the newly granted certification for a model number, and then turn to BigPhoneCompany’s own records for more information. The latest gem uncovered through this oddly revealing process is the LG GM750, which is apparently otherwise known as “Layla”. No pictures just yet, but we know a few things. For one, the model number indicates that it’s a follow up to the…
