Samsung Beat R1 priced

Samsung has recently priced their Beat R1 portable media player, and I’ll get to that in a minute. The Beat R1 weighs at 50 grams, and is 8.9 mm thin. Even though it is that skinny, it still has a touchscreen, Bluetooth, and a battery life of 50 hours of audio playback and 4 hours of video. The video features DivX and the Samsung fantastic Digital Natural Sound Engine. The R1 is available in both pink, black, and silver, with the 8GB model being $149.99 and the 16GB would be $179.99. Televisions Are Born In Places Like This [Image Cache]

This man is tightening a mold in a Samsung factory in Kaluga, Russia. Inside that mold is a portion of what will soon be a television. Let’s take a tour of the rest of the factory. Samsung opened this particular factory in 2008 and its been putting out products ever since. Aside from quality inspections, it appears that from the moment components arrive in gigantic sacks from Korea nearly everything is automated in this factory—from hot plastic being piped into molds to microcircuits being produced to the little logos being stamped onto panels. Humans mostly oversee the production and yes, occasionally

Samsung’s new 3DTVs get an early eyes-on, through $150 shutter glasses

Firsthand impressions outside the CES crucible are flowing in following the worldwide launch of Samsung’s new LCD 3DTVs . UK publications have gotten up close with production versions of the new HDTVs, TechRadar observed the Monsters vs. Aliens Blu-ray disc packed in with the new displays over there plus the 2D-to-3D conversion feature , reporting the latter worked better on sports footage of ice skaters but caused “disconcerting” effect on news broadcasts. A video preview from Which? (embedded after the break) gives a good look at the new remote and managed to clear up one of the early worries about new…

Samsung’s E6, E101 and E61 e-readers shown on video

We were fortunate enough to get a quick moment with Samsung’s new assortment of e-readers back at CES, but the cool kids over at Notebook Italia were able to get the E6, E101 and E61 on video . There’s little doubt that these look awfully different than all of the other me-too options on the market, and the touch input seems to be extraordinarily responsive based on the demonstration. Speaking of which… hop on past the break to have a look yourself, cool? Continue reading Samsung’s E6, E101 and E61 e-readers shown on video Samsung’s E6, E101 and…

Samsung Jack Cell Phone Review–More Like Samsungberry

The more Samsung cell phones I come in contact with, the less I like them.  Samsung has irked me almost relentlessly with lower quality phones and phones that do precious little more than tweak the design envelope just enough to avoid derisive mocking.  And despite the fact that the good folks out at Puremobile sent me a Samsung Jack to take a look at, all I can think when I’m trying this is that it’s more like the Samsung Black…berry. The Samsung Jack is a smartphone that including alarm, clock, calendar, Bluetooth connectivity, scheduler, stopwatch, world clock, currency converter, a variety of…

Samsung announces three new cameras, maybe even ones worth looking at

The last batch of Samsung point-and-shoots was so unremarkable that I couldn’t even bear to write them up . Not so this batch — while Samsung isn’t exactly revolutionizing imaging or anything, these are at least different from the usual “megapixel bump and smile shutter features” nonsense. Following the example of such cameras as the DP2 and LX3 , the new TL500 eschews high megapixel counts and long zooms for a fast lens and larger sensor, resulting in (one hopes) much-improved low light performance. And the TL350 takes a page from Casio’s book (it’s about …

Samsung Convoy Cell Phone Review–Rugged But Basic

I confess that I like the trend in cell phones to make them more robust and resistant to damage.  They’re called MOBILE for a reason–they need to be able to go places, and if they go places, they might get dropped.  They need to be able to survive that, and the Samsung Convoy is a little more likely than most. The Samsung Convoy is a flip phone with VZ Navigator and VCAST, a two megapixel camera, GPS, a phone book with capacity for a thousand name and number entries (and even room for email addresses, a street address and notes about the person in question), a calculator, a calendar, speakerphone, alarm clock, stopwatch, world …

Samsung makes the Wave with Bada official

After being teased with a washed out banner image , leaked images on the Internet and stealthy screen shots of its gorgeous AMOLED screen, the Samsung S8500, or Wave, has finally become official. In terms of hardware, the design is very Samsung-esque as it takes some cues from the Samsung Omnia II with sharpened angles and diamond-like patterns for the camera and front navigation button. Perhaps the most impressive feature is its 3.3 inch, 800 x 480 AMOLED screen that makes colors look bright and nicely saturated and blacks looking blacker than black. The 5.1 megapixel camera has face and blink detection as …

Samsung Monte Slider E2550 and Monte Bar C3200 Spotted

Everyone is pretty much aware that Samsung has already released the Samsung Monte S5620 . But it looks like that this is not all that Samsung has to offer. There are two more devices and they go by the names of the Samsung Monte Slider E2550 and Monte Bar C3200. No detailed specs are available at the moment but considering that the Mobile World Congress is just around the corner, you can bet that a lot of reviews ( including ours ) will be put up so watch out for it! Samsung doing a 10-inch Chrome OS netbook later this year

There’s nothing to look at just yet, but Samsung’s own Phil Newton apparently just confirmed that the company will be debuting a Chrome OS netbook in the near future, according to a report by Australia’s Channel News . The laptop will be similar to the N210 (pictured), with a 10.1-inch screen, 3G, WiFi, 2GB of RAM, 64GB of flash storage and a purported 12 hour battery life. There are also rumors that it’ll be running a 1.5GHz Snapdragon processor, but the amount of straight up information from Phil makes speculation almost feel silly at this point. The netbook is supposed to be introduced later this…
