HP Mini 311 reviewed with earnest, ION-enhanced affection

It’s taken longer than we thought for a honest-to-goodness NVIDIA ION -powered within arm’s reach, but sure enough the HP Mini 311 accomplishes just that. Laptop’s managed one of the first reviews, and much like what the site intimated with earlier benchmarks , you’re looking at a surprisingly capable and sleek $400 netbook with good battery life. In fact, the only major complaint seems to be a trackpad that’s a bit too rough for the reviewer’s tastes — probably a sacrifice worth making if you’re definitely in the market for a new ultraportable right now. Hit up the read link for the full review. Filed under: Laptops HP Mini 311 reviewed with earnest, ION-enhanced affection originally appeared …

LG BL40 Chocolate Touch reviewed, deemed ‘pretty OK’

We know you’ve been saving up your Rubles for the new LG BL40 Chocolate Touch , but in the meantime we thought we’d hep you to this pretty extensive review they conducted over at Mobile Review . And sure, at first blush this thing seems to be extremely noteworthy: that 21:9 display, the S-Class UI, the haughty demeanor — what’s not to love? The real question, of course, isn’t how attractive the handset is, but how will it fare in the real world? For the reviewer, a big sticking point was the phone’s dimensions. This thing is huge — at over 5-inches tall, you’re going to need a…

Samsung’s WiMAX-equipped Mondi MID reviewed, warts ‘n all

Are you a high roller sitting pretty in Las Vegas right now, wondering what MID to pick up to take advantage of that fantabulous new CLEAR WiMax service all the kids are talking about? No? Well, read on anyways — you’ll probably want to hear this. Apparently the kids at PC World have had the opportunity to put that Samsung Mondi (you know, the one we were caught on video with way back in April) through its paces. The verdict? Pretty “meh,” it seems: the OS, WinMo 6.1, performs pretty much as you’d expect: all sorts of sluggish. And it appears that Sammy won’t be upgrading to 6.5 when that becomes available, on account of all …

Twitter Application Database Goes Up for Sale

Want your very own Twitter applications database, listing 450 sites and add-ons that work with Twitter? You might be in luck. Twtbase , one the 15 Twitter databases we reviewed in our January 2009 article 15 Twitter Directories Compared , is up for sale on the Digital Point forums. Back in January, we made the following key points about the service: Overview: Similar to Twitdom, Twtbase also houses their database of applications within Wordpress and divvies them up into either the web, mobile, desktop, or browser plug-in buckets. What you might like: The thumbnail view. Each application has a screenshot, displays current rating, and number of votes. Twtbase…

HTC Magic supports Exchange, Google says Android doesn’t

A lack of Exchange ActiveSync support has largely relegated Android to the enterprise sidelines since its commercial launch last year in the G1 , and while third-party apps have attempted to come to the rescue, there’s nothing quite like a little first-party love to instill confidence in the world’s IT managers. Strangely, CNET Asia noticed that its Magic seems to support Exchange — indeed, it’s listed right there in the mail setup and the reviewer reports that it works like a champ — but a check with Google would have you believing otherwise. CNET’s US bureau dropped Google a line to get the straight dope on the current Exchange situation and was greeted with an unhelpful response of “Android does not currently include support for Microsoft…

Canon’s PowerShot D10 adventure cam shot with a bazooka in this in-depth review

The gang at Photography Blog have got their hands all over the PowerShot D10 , and it looks like Canon didn’t fare too badly with its first “adventure camera.” Even if the reviewer didn’t really drop it from a helicopter or shoot it with a bazooka (as we had originally hoped) the unit was found to be as intuitive, sensible, and dependable as the company’s other point-and-shooters. Of course, a device with this robust of a design is going to suffer in a few areas, and the 3x, 35-135mm zoom lens and 2.5-inch display can easily be considered “rather hum…

ASUS P565 apparently available, unboxed

Lazarus be praised! The last time we heard about ASUS’ P565 was back in February, when we mourned its sad and supposed demise . Turns out that’s not the case, as we’ve now got a hands-on with the GPS / PDA phone from Polish site ASUSPDA, who claims (at least via machine translation) that it’s been on sale for several months. The plethora of product / unboxing / interface pics look mighty legit, and as for the impressions, the reviewer seems very quite fond of it. Compliments are given for its general performance and design, though he does note the Glide interface isn’t as seamless as you’d expect with a 816MHz processor …
