Judge suspends Apple/Nokia lawsuit pending ITC investigation

Topics: Hardware , Software , Apple With all of the furor around the gigantic patent lawsuit that Apple dropped on HTC this week , you might be forgiven for forgetting about the first big patent smackdown of the year, the lawsuit that Nokia laid at Apple’s door . But a judge in Delaware hasn’t — he ordered a suspension to both the case and its countersuit while the International Trade Commission works out the complaints between the two companies. Clearly Nokia and Apple have it out for one another, but apparently they’re going to take it one step at a time. Once the ITC has completed its probe, which was scheduled…

Nokia 6350 Cell Phone Review–A Huge Surprise Waits Inside

Perhaps the biggest surprise I’ve come across in some time is the Nokia 6350 cell phone.  It doesn’t look like much on the outside, but once you spend a little time with it and discover what’s waiting for you in there, you’ll discover that this thing is like a little solution to most any problem you have that can be solved by a mobile phone. The Nokia 6350 is a flip phone that boasts a two inch display, a battery that yields as much as twenty five hours and twenty minutes of activity depending on what you do with it…

Skype for Symbian . A freely downloadable application that allows you to converse with your Skype-equipped friends over a WiFi or 3G connection. Symbian^4 makes video debut, fails to wow

Maybe it’s the lack of a banging soundtrack , but we’re finding ourselves somewhat underwhelmed by these first video appearances by the highly anticipated Symbian^4 user interface. What we’re shown is a now familiar layout for touchscreen devices, with a trio of home screens that can be customized with widgets and live information trinkets such as a clock and a weather app. It is, as promised , very touch-centric, but it is by no means revolutionary. Both videos are titled as mere “first glimpse” offerings, however, so the eternal optimist in us likes to believe that there’ll be plenty more to get excited about as …

Nokia N900 Defective Charger Ports Discovered

It looks like Nokia may have overlooked something as far as the Nokia N900 handsets are concerned with reported charger ports coming loose whenever the charger cable is disconnected. It seems the charger cables are too tight and Nokia UK is acknowledging the issue. The good news is that it only concerns a “limited” number of devices. But to make sure, it would be best to contact the customer care people in case you are experiencing the same issue. The Nokia N900 is distributed in the UK by O2, Vodafone and Orange. N900 gains PS3 Sixaxis control over SNES gaming (video)

Even if the N900 isn’t quite ready for mass market appeal, that doesn’t mean that it’s not the perfect device for many of the Engadget elite. With impressive power and out-of-the-box hackability , this QWERTY handset is a tinkerers dream. In fact, Tomasz Sterna has already recompiled the kernel to add joystick (and mouse) support. He then pieced together enough code to turn the N900 into a portable Sixaxis gaming console that brings SNES gaming to any TV. Fire up the N900’s Bluetooth, then kick back and immerse yourself in a land of 16-bit dinosaurs and chubby Italian plumbers — good times. See the finished product after the break. Nokia mounts huge Ovi Maps signpost on a crane in London (video)

We’re generally reluctant to cover purely promotional stunts like these , but when you decide to jack up a house-sized arrow on a crane and hang it next to London’s Thames river, well, exceptions can be made . Nokia’s big push to inform the world that Ovi Maps is free — now and forever — has culminated in the above sign, whose most appealing feature must be that it allows commoners like you and us to control it. People can send in a missive and coordinates via text or email, and then watch as the giant pointer rotates to the given direction and displays their wisdom to the world. See it in action after the break. Continue reading Nokia mounts huge Ovi Maps signpost on a crane in London (video) Nokia mounts …

Nokia’s Ovi Maps Racing now available, makes the world your course

Since it looks like GT5’s still another decade or two away from release, racing gamers need everything they can to survive the wait, and this is just about the most creative way we’ve seen to do that. At a glance, Nokia’s Ovi Maps Racing looks like a pretty simple, standard 2D racer with an overhead view, but its secret sauce lies in the map: it can turn pretty much any street in the world into a racecourse. The game lets you chart out your heated battle using nothing more than Ovi Maps data and your finger, meaning Manhattan, Prague, or your folks’ quiet, peaceful neighborhood are all potential targets for your high-speed bedlam. Seems like a great…
