Twitter hijacked by Iranian Cyber Army

It’s no secret that Iran isn’t too fond of the United States and it seems like Twitter is quickly becoming the face of America. Why do I say this? Well this morning a group calling themselves the Iranian Cyber Army hijacked Twitter’s DNS and put up the above image. Additionally, they left the below message: Iranian

Intel talks about SCC: Single-chip Cloud Computer

This morning, Intel’s CTO Justin Ratter was presenting their “Single-Chip Cloud Computer” concept. This is not a product, but a research project to determine if such a product would be viable. The fundamental question is: “can we replace a server rack with a single chip?” A small R&D team has nonetheless built a 45nm, 48 cores (24 dual-core x86), 1.3B transistors chip physical processor for evaluation purposes. The power management makes it possible to scale consumption from 25 to 125W. The chip also contains 4 DDR3 memory controllers to serve the many cores inside. Intel will release the processor to “dozens” of partners like universities and key software companies like Microsoft. They are the software experts and will provide critical feedback to Intel. Microsoft has demonstrated…

Mophie Juice Pack Air gets festive, now available in red

What is there to say about this, outside of the headline? We loved the Mophie Juice Pack at first, only to have it almost literally fall apart in our hands . Mophie said the problem we had definitely shouldn’t have happened, and shouldn’t happen again. Whether or not the problem was isolated and/or fixed, I’ve got no idea. But I do know one thing: now it comes in red! Earlier this morning, Mophie announced that they’re now shipping the Juice Pack Air in Soft Touch Red , in addition to the black/silver/purple options they’ve had for a while now…

Archos releases developer edition firmware for Internet Tablets

According to a press release dated this morning, Archos is making proof-of-concept “developer edition” firmware available for its ARCHOS 5 and ARCHOS 7 Internet Media Tablets. Based on the Angstrom Linux distribution, this is by no means a commercial distro (no multimedia software) but since you’re taking it upon yourself to code the next great multimedia / social networking / productivity / time travel app anyways, you don’t really want to be bogged down by such pedestrian fare. According to the PR, the company “eagerly anticipates seeing its hardware platform used as a foundation for creating exciting new usage models and applications that the developer community brings….

Clock-sheet lets you tell the time without opening your eyes

Now, it’s not that I don’t want to tell the time when I wake up in the morning. It’s that I don’t want it spelled out in macaroni where I usually put my head. Now, for a blind person, this might be excellent, although the designers could stand to reduce the size of the letters. As for the sighted, I don’t know about all you guys, but generally I sleep with my head sideways on my pillow, and could see my alarm clock clearly if I had one. I think it would wake me more to have to reach over and trace out each digit individually. And what, sir, if I …

Just The Facts: Factery Labs Trims The Web Down To The Important Bits

When you go to search the web, is it because you want to read through a lengthy article related to a subject, or do you just want the facts that answer your question? Factery Labs , a new service that’s launching this morning, is hoping it’s the latter. Factery is a new search engine/API that uses advanced language processing to sift through content on the web to identify the most factual statements — in other words, it takes news articles and webpages and breaks them down into a handful of bulletpoints on the fly. To give an idea of how Factery works, the company put together a simple search engine with a two-column view: one does a search for…

Mac OS X 10.6.2 update out on the prowl (update: Atom support is gone)

It’s been awhile , but we’ve got ourselves a brand spanking new OS X update in the mix, 10.6.2 for Snow Leopard. So far the biggest change here seems to be fixing that nagging guest account deletion bug — and thank goodness for that. As for whether or not it supports Intel Atom processors , last we heard this morning it wasn’t going to be there, but we’re gonna have wait and see now that it’s officially hit the nets. Leopard users who haven’t made the upgrade also get a gift today, in the form of a security update. 10.6.2 release notes after the break. Update: We just installed it — it took forever and…

NEC working on an Android tablet for suits?

Super-vague report in the Nikkei this morning about NEC working on a seven-to-eight-inch “mobile device as capable as a personal computer” that’s aimed at business customers — no specs are given, but the tiny accompanying pic definitely shows the Android app tab at the bottom of that custom UI. Very mysterious. The report says NEC thinks it’ll move 100,000 to 200,000 of these a year after it launches next fall, and plans to sell a million a year over time, but we’ll wait to see what’s real and what’s not before we tackle that prediction.
