Mio stuns at CeBIT with ultra-sleek Moov V780 MID

Uh, folks — we’ve an identity crisis on our hands. Is this a MID with a penchant for navigating? Is this a PMP with pre-loaded maps? Is it an ultra-sleek navigator that just so happens to play music? There’s a fair chance the world will never know, but we’ll soon be stopping by Mio ’s booth at CeBIT in order to get a view of things ourselves. At any rate, the Moov V780 is undoubtedly one of the most appealing things to come from the outfit in quite some time, offering up 720p multimedia playback, an HDMI output, digital TV support, a 7-inch (800 x 480 resolution) display…

Patent suggests location-based social networking for iPhone

Topics: Rumors , iPhone Imagine you and a friend are on a phone call, and both of you own iPhones . You’re trying to meet up somewhere downtown in a city neither of you know very well, so the best answer you can give your friend when he asks, “Where are you now?” is “Uhhh…” followed by several seconds of silence. It’s already possible to share your location using the Maps app on the iPhone — find your current location, tap on the blue marker on the map, tap “Share Location,” and then send it to your friend either as an e-mail or MMS…

Google Street View camera car tagged with GPS sensor, stalked around Berlin

The story here is that someone secretly affixed a GPS tracker on a Google Street View camera car and you can follow the car’s progress using Google Maps while it’s photographing the streets of Berlin. Sort of ironic, isn’t? But either the car seems to be stopped or Google caught wind of the stalkers because I haven’t seen any progress the last few minutes. Or maybe they’re eating. Either way, click through for the live Google Map. [ ffff.at via reddit ]

LG UX840 Triton Cell Phone Review–Versatile If A Bit Lacking

LG products usually do all right by me.  They’re not always jam-packed with features, but they do a passable job of supplying a decent phone. The LG UX840 Triton is a textbook example of LG at its most frequently seen. The LG UX840 Triton phone is a slider style phone with three hundred meg of onboard memory, GPS, a battery capable of two hundred and ten minutes of talk time, web browsing, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, a three megapixel camera, speakerphone, calendar, world clock, alarm, stopwatch, calculator, currency converter, notepad and downloadable games. First, I love the versatility of this phone, seeing as it has both a trackpeg and a full QWERTY keyboard.  Call it irrational preference if you must, but I personally dislike…

Samsung N150 brings 3G and GPS to Pine Trail party, spotted at FCC and retail sites

“The Atom is dead, long live the Atom.” The long awaited upgrade of Intel’s netbook platform is gathering pace , and latest to join the ranks is Samsung with its 3G and GPS-equipped N150. Powered by Qualcomm’s Gobi 2000 chip, the connectivity on this lite laptop will not go lacking, though Sammy disappoints with the rest of its specs. According to a very early listing on Neobits, the 10.1-inch screen sticks with a now barely acceptable 1,024 x 600 resolution, while RAM and storage are limited to the eons old 1GB and 160GB, respectively. Windows 7 Starter Edition, a 4,400mAh battery, and the …

2011 Audi A8 packs optional EDGE, Google Earth

We’re guessing it won’t be the tipping point that finally convinces you to buy an Audi A8, but it looks like those in the market for the car will be able to add a nice little option to the 2011 model: a built-in nav system complete with Google Earth and a GPRS / EDGE modem. Yeah, so it’s not 3G, but it is apparently the first time that Google Earth has been made available in a production vehicle, which certainly counts for something. In addition to serving up Google Earth and various Google-sourced points of interest, that modem will also let you download a range of other up-to-date information to the …

Manufacturers redirecting R&D on declining GPS device orders?

If you enjoy the decimation of an industry as much as Google does then you’re going to love the latest rumor sourced from DigiTimes ‘ manufacturing moles. According to the Taiwanese rumor rag, personal navigation device R&D teams at the manufacturing powerhouses of Foxconn (aka, Hon Hai) and Wistron have been shifted to other devices in the face of “declining PND orders.” Seems logical as GPS-equipped smartphones snuff out their dedicated forebears with the same converged precision that turned wrist watches into items of fashion. The strange part of this DigiTimes rumor is that said manufacturers have shifted those PND teams to focus on e-book readers and …
