Palm Cutbacks Worry Investors Despite New webOS

The latest version of Palm’s webOS is out, but a reduction in orders to suppliers had investors worried Wednesday. The release of webOS 1.3.5 for Sprint Nextel’s Palm Pre and Pixi customers isn’t expected to ease Palm’s financial woes, but makes it easier for users to download applications from the App Catalog. Palm has had 10 consecutive quarterly losses, and its new webOS faces significant competition. Palm investors worry that webOS may not be the preferred platform for Palm’s wireless-carrier partners or end users. And Palm’s recent cuts in orders to suppliers left investors feeling shaky. While Palm expects webOS to lead its product road map and services and be a key differentiator, it’s a new OS and the …

Apple Expanding iWork In The Cloud?

A year ago Apple launched iWork.com in beta, which allowed users of their office suite of applications to publish documents online. It’s a light feature set compared to Google Docs and Office 10 – just viewing and commenting. But a job posting suggests Apple may be creating a true collaborative cloud based version of the iWork apps. The job posting popped up on CrunchBoard on December 22. Apple is looking for a mid level engineer to “be part of the core development team” and “engage in an area from design to development” of a new javascript rich internet application for the iWork team: The Productivity team (i.e. iWork) is seeking an energetic, highly …

Ricoh GXR review roundup

Ricoh’s GXR certainly isn’t the most stylish camera out there, but it’s certainly one of the most unique. Boasting an ability to support interchangeable lenses and image sensors, this one offers up flexibility that few other shooters on the market can match. We’ve scrounged up a litany of reviews and hands-on impressions, and by and large, most everyone who got their hands around one enjoyed the experience. Photography Blog noted that the camera was “a remarkably mature first-generation product in an intriguing new photographic system, with excellent handling and image quality that will instantly appeal to all photographers who want to take pictures first and talk about gear second.” Unfortunately, it seems that praise quiets down a bit once you leave the bright outdoors…

V7 Natural Keyboard Review–Going For the Natural Approach

One of the interesting things about doing a review of a keyboard is that you automatically get the perfect metric for testing the product while writing the piece itself.  All you have to do is type the review up on the keyboard itself and then relate the experience. The V7 Natural comes with a series of

Smoking May Void Your Mac Warranty

We all know that smoking is bad for health, but it seems that it might also be bad for your Macbook or iMac. Reports are going around that 2 customers have been denied warranty repairs to their MacBook and iMac by Apple, despite both having extended AppleCare warranties. The reason behind it is that the machines were exposed to second-hand smoke, and Apple claims that the nicotine released from cigarettes is classified as a bio-hazard by the Operational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and thus, Apple employees are within their rights to refuse to work on a machine that has come into contact with the chemical. Have any of you encountered such an issue before? Drop us a comment and let us …

With New Staff In Place, Techmeme Polishes Its Mobile Experience

If you’re addicted to Techmeme , like we are, you’re probably addicted to reading it on your mobile phone too. The problem is that the experience hasn’t been great. There was a mobile version of the site, called Mini-Techmeme, but no one seemed to know about it. More importantly, it didn’t give the full Techmeme experience because it didn’t include discussion items. Today, Techmeme has launched a new version of its site optimized for smart phones. If you visit the regular Techmeme site now on devices like an iPhone, a Palm Pre, or the new Verizon Droid, you’ll see…

Video: Austin WiMAX Launch Event

Verizon Test WiMAX Test Sprint held a happy hour last night to show off the WiMAX launch in here Austin, Texas, so I wandered over for some BBQ and broadband. I want to love WiMAX, but I can’t get excited about the promise of upload speeds of some 400 kilobits per second, which are only a wee bit more than what my Verizon 3G connection delivers. However, on the download side things are decent for a wired network and awesome for a wireless one. And before any WiMAX boosters despair, I was told that the local 4G network should continue to improve over the next few weeks, which is why I’m holding off on an all-out review. For a sneak peak, …

Netflix instant streaming demoed on PlayStation 3 (updated with more video!)

Aw, suki suki now! Those Netflix instant streaming discs that started floating out to anxious PS3 owners yesterday are obviously splashing down, with YouTube user (and avid Engadget reader) otimus posting up a stellar walkthrough showing everything in action. We’ve got to admit — the whole thing looks exceptionally sleek, but given the PS3’s multimedia prowess , we didn’t really expect anything less. He stated that he didn’t notice any stuttering as he sifted through films and mashed play, and that any jitters you see in the video (after the break) can be blamed on the janky TV capture device. So, any others receive their disc today? How’s…

iPhone Problems With Win 7?

If you’re running an Intel P55 chipset, Windows 7, and an iPhone, you might be encountering some problems, if the experience of quite a few people online is anything to go by. Apparently many folks are unable to sync their iPhones with iTunes for Windows, and the majority of them have the combination mentioned above. Could this be a Windows 7 issue? We’re not sure, but there certainly seems like a possibility. Permalink: iPhone Problems With Win 7? from Ubergizmo | Hot: Zune HD Review
