XBMC 9.11 ‘Camelot’ now available for download, huge changelog in tow

Frankly, we haven’t heard much noise coming from the XBMC camp in quite some time. All that changes today, as the project has just launched its latest major update in v9.11. The so-called Camelot build is now available for download on Windows, OS X and Linux, with the most notable changes including a revamped user interface, DirectX support by default in Windows, a “complete reorganization of the settings menus, automatic video information extraction, and smoother video playback.” You’ll also find updated scrapers, expanded remote control support and updated codecs. Tap that source link for the download and condensed changelog — though, we should caution you that the live installer seems to be causing issues for some, so try and stay positive, okay?…

Moodagent: Going iTunes Playlists one better

Topics: iTunes , iPhone , iPod touch , App Review , Music Moodagen t [ iTunes Link ] (free for now) puts a new spin on the iTunes Genius Playlist system. Instead of leaving it up to Apple to give you category based Genius Playlists, Moodagent, gives you some control over what songs will appear in a 25 song customizable playlist of your music. You are given 5 colored bars, each with an icon representing an aspect of music. The symbols didn’t make much sense to me, but by hitting an info button, I found that the icons represented, in order: Sensual, Tender, Joy, Aggressive and Tempo . I could have used a full explanation …

Facebook Testing Reply by Email Feature

Finally, all of those email notifications you get from Facebook might become useful, as it appears that the social network is testing functionality that lets you reply to status updates (and conversations you’re involved with via others’ updates) via email. The feature’s not enabled for everyone yet, but DownloadSquad has seen it and says “it works seamlessly and it’s fast.” We’ve contacted Facebook to try and get some more details on when it’s being rolled out to more users, and also if it might apply to Facebook messages (we can dream, right?). In addition to being useful functionality, this is actually a fairly significant strategic move by Facebook, as essentially they’ve decided to sacrifice page views (by not forcing you to login to comment) for …

Motorola’s Shop4apps online Android app store discovered

Leave it to the gung ho gang at Android and Me to do some clever Googling and discovering Motorola’s web based Android app store, Shop4apps . The store has since been removed / made hidden, but not before we got a good glimpse at the whole shebang. There’s a MyLocker section to check your download history, the ability to re-download and transfer aspps to a new phone, and a special MotoAppstore client for downloading and installing the apps (which unfortunately wasn’t working yet). Frankly, the images aren’t too flattering, so we’re hoping for some further tweaking before it’s official launch. In…

Swype gets hacked onto the original Omnia (Update: And more!)

If you’re one of the 3 million or so people rocking the original Samsung Omnia, you might be feelin’ like you’ve been left out in the cold now that the Omnia II is on the shelves. At the very least, you’re probably a bit envious of the Omnia II’s finger-swiping text input method, Swype . Yeah? Don’t fret – we’ve got good news. Just one week after the Omnia II’s launch, the phone modding community has already ripped it apart, extracted the goods, and have it pretty much fully functioning on the original Omnia (Both the SGH-I900 and US model SGH-i910). Though I can’t promise it’ll stay up for long (considering that Samsung and…

Video: Austin WiMAX Launch Event

Verizon Test WiMAX Test Sprint held a happy hour last night to show off the WiMAX launch in here Austin, Texas, so I wandered over for some BBQ and broadband. I want to love WiMAX, but I can’t get excited about the promise of upload speeds of some 400 kilobits per second, which are only a wee bit more than what my Verizon 3G connection delivers. However, on the download side things are decent for a wired network and awesome for a wireless one. And before any WiMAX boosters despair, I was told that the local 4G network should continue to improve over the next few weeks, which is why I’m holding off on an all-out review. For a sneak peak, …
