NVIDIA considers external graphics accelerators

For years, NVIDIA has kept eye on the potential of external graphics accelerators, although nothing concrete is mentioned just yet. Many questions still need to be answered including whether the size of its target market is large enough to make such a venture feasible. While there are many scenarios to be considered, we think that the market is effectively very small. The Future of portable computing is definitely not adding stuff via an external PCI-E bus. If NVIDIA sees an market opportunity, it can deliver a product very quickly, after all external GPUs are just like PCI-E based ones. Would you get one and at what price? ExoPC Taken Apart For You To Inspect

Do you remember the $599 8.9-inch ExoPC that we brought to your attention just a few days ago? Well, it seems that some folks have managed to get their hands on it and have taken the pains to take it apart. From the pictures of the tablet computer, you’ll note an Intel Atom N270 CPU, 945 chipset and 2GB worth of RAM. The ExoPC looks like it’s built rather solidly, which is certainly welcome in this day and time where most products are being built with less and less reliability. Will you be performing surgery on yours when you receive it? Permalink: ExoPC Taken Apart For You To Inspect from Ubergizmo | Hot: Nexus One Review

AA-powered Netbook NorhTec Gecko Edubook hands-on

We published photos of the NorhTec Gecko Edubook back in May but this AA batteries Netbook has since been spotted in the wild and our friends from Liliupting have been able to play with it. So how is it? Well, it feels like any other Netbook (although a bit thicker), but with a couple of twists: for one, it looks like you can charge the AA by plugging directly from the wall to the computer - no power brick involved. Secondly, the construction is very modular. You can change the CPU if you want to. So what do you think? Is using AA batteries hot or not? How would you use it? Permalink: AA-powered Netbook

Victorian styled PC is drool-worthy

Are you a sucker for old Victorian-style items around your home? If so, you might want to hook up with Jake who came up with this drool-worthy PC that is squeezed into a custom aluminum chassis, designed specially to hark back to the Victorian era. The chassis itself is capable of housing hard drives as well as the motherboard behind the monitor, while the base unit has been rebuilt to hold a chunky 350W power supply. Powered by a Pentium IV processor, you will find a 250GB SATA hard drive within as well as a gold-painted cooling fan, running alongside a typewriter-inspired…

ICD Ultra Tablet Looks Sleek

The ICD Ultra tablet is probably one of the smallest tablets that we’ve seen recently, as it sports a 7-inch screen, though the highlight will certainly be the NVIDIA Tegra T20 chip. While the current design uses a resistive display, ICD is planning on updating it with a capacitive display before it goes on sale next year, which is certainly great news. The ICD Ultra should sport a integrated 3G SIM to keep it perpetually connected, which also means that there is a possibility that carriers could subsidize it. With a rumored price tag of $249, it’ll certainly be an interesting device to consider. Specifications include: Permalink: ICD Ultra Tablet Looks Sleek from Ubergizmo | Hot: Nokia Booklet 3G Review

Seagate’s Momentus Thin Drive is the World’s Thinnest 2.5" Netbook Drive [Hdd]

At a mere 7 millimeters in height, Seagate’s Momentus Thin drive will be the slimmest 2.5″ hard drive on the market. Not only that, but supposedly it will also be one of the lowest-priced storage options for ultra-portables and netbooks. We don’t have details as to exactly how much these drives will cost or when we’ll be seeing them in our computers, but we do know that they’re shipping to Seagate’s OEM and integrator partners at the very beginning of 2010. If the Momentus Thin lives up to all its claims, then its 160GB and 250GB capacities should be a rather attractive option for netbooks. Definitely something to keep an eye on next year. Intel Core i9 Appears On eBay

Can’t wait to get your hands on the next-generation Intel Core i9 processor? Well, there’s always eBay , right? It seems that this processor was up for auction for a princely fee of $1200. All that money just to pick up this prototype 6-core Westmere Gulftown 2.4GHz LGA 1366 CPU, would you go for it? There’s no confirmation of the authenticity of the auction, it might have been a scam for all we know, right? Permalink: Intel Core i9 Appears On eBay from Ubergizmo | Hot: Palm Pixi Review

Nokia Booklet 3G Review

The Nokia Booklet 3G was quite a surprise when it was first announced. With it, Nokia wants to differentiate itself by building a Netbook with a top-notch construction quality, a small footprint (it fits in a large purse) and small weight: only 2.64lbs. On top of that, the Nokia Booklet 3G has a very long real-world battery life. It seems like the perfect Netbook, but it has one significant downside: performance. You do know that Netbooks are slow, but you will have to realize that the Booklet 3G is even slower, so it is definitely not for everyone. The question is: is it for you? Here’s my take… Permalink: Nokia Booklet 3G Review from Ubergizmo | Hot: Palm Pixi Review
