A Robotic Band With a Wiimote-Wielding Frontman [Robots]

In what may be a precursor to the hippie/robot showdown we’ve always hoped for, musician Patrick Flanagan has founded Jazari, a three-piece robotic drum circle with some impressive grooves. If that’s not fun enough, it’s all controlled by two Wiimotes. Last week we looked at Marv , a robotic vibraphone that banged out an impressive rendition of “Flight of the Bumblebee.” This week’s robotunes come courtesy of an ensemble. Flanagan wields two Wiimotes to control the rhythm, volume, and pitch of the three different drums. The D-pad determines which part of the drum is struck (and thus the sound it makes) while…

Nexus One for AT&T’s 3G bands likely in the works

By all appearances, Google’s trying to break Android free of the surly bonds of the manufacturers and carriers that support it, opening its own online store and selling unlocked Nexus Ones to anyone willing to pony up the $529. Problem is, the Nexus One as we know it today is only available in a configuration that supports North American 3G on AWS spectrum, meaning you’ve got to go with the States’ fourth-largest carrier if you want to blaze — you’ve got no other option. That’s not very “open,” is it, Google? That brings us to an FCC finding today. Take a look at the two labels above; the one on the right comes from the current Nexus One. The label on the left, meanwhile…

Motorola Droid (”Sholes”) hits the FCC with AT&T-friendly 3G – for real this time.

Looks like Verizon might not be the only one getting the Moto Droid. A few days ago, we wrote a post highlighting the fact that a GSM version of the oh-so-hypetastic Motorola Droid (otherwise known as “Sholes” or “Tao”) had cleared the FCC runway. At first, we got a bit excited and misread the details, reading them as if that GSM version of the Sholes had AT&T-friendly 3G bands built in. It didn’t (it was the European GSM version) – but this one does ! Like the last time around, there is just one single reference to the device’…

HTC Hero hits FCC with US 3G

No mention was made of a Hero with 3G that’d work on Rogers or AT&T back at its announcement a few days ago, but HTC has been getting awfully good at making phones that work properly around these parts — so we can’t say we’re entirely surprised to see a Hero approved for WCDMA on Bands II and V gracing the FCC today. For the record, Bands II and V are 1900 and 850MHz, respectively, which is exactly the combo AT&T subscribers would need to flip the switch on high-speed data. We’re not sure if this negates rumors that the Hero would be coming to Sprint, but if we can just get this version released and in our hands, you know… maybe our minds would be operating…

T-Mobile officially announces the 3G Sidekick LX, coming May 13

Well, well. Looks like someone launched the new Sidekick LX page a little too early. The oft rumored 2009 model of the Sidekick LX is now 100% official. As far as we can tell, all the stuff we’ve seen leak out over the past few months was spot on, from the 3G, to the 3.2 megapixel camera , to the heavy social networking focus. Form-factor wise, it’s.. well, it’s a Sidekick. Not that there’s anything wrong with that; it may not be the slimmest phone of the lot, but its always been an outstanding handset to type on. Beyond the…
