Android Finally Gets An Official Yammer App

Finally. Over a year after iPhone users got their native Yammer fix, Android has an official Yammer application available on Android Market. The application, while still fairly basic, comes with support for most of Yammer’s core functionality. If you use Yammer and you have an Android phone, you’ll want this app. We can’t link directly to the app because Google still hasn’t launched a strong web presence for the Market, but you can find it by running a query for “Yammer” from your phone. The new application is actually derived from the codebase of Yowl, a third party app for Android that Yammer acquired a couple months ago. CEO David Sacks says …

Want to connect your iPhone and Bluetooth keyboard? There’s a (jailbroken) app for that (Update: video!)

The wait has been long, but now there’s finally a means by which to connect your dear, yet almost buttonless, iPhone or iPod touch to a Bluetooth keyboard for some more intense finger tapping action. The project that delivered us this teasing video back in February has at long last reached the application stage, where simple commoners like us can use it to synergize our gear — provided we’ve had the wherewithal to free it from Cupertino’s overbearing clutches first. The BTstack Keyboard app is now available in exchange for $5 at the Cydia store, so if you want to be the first to write a bestseller on his or her iDevice, …

Nuance Launches Voice-powered Dragon Search App For iPhone

Hot on the heels of the launch of their Dragon Dictation app (and a short-lived and mostly overblown privacy scandal ), Nuance has just launched a second iPhone application: Dragon Search. Heralded by Nuance as the “fast, accurate, and smart way to search online content on your iPhone”, Dragon Search allows iPhone users to search across Google, Yahoo!, Bing, iTunes, Twitter, Wiki, or YouTube by speaking their search terms. Dragon Search is powered by the Dragon NaturallySpeaking engine, just as with Nuance’s other offering. If you’re having good luck with Dragon Dictation, you should see similar results here. The design…

Twitter App for the Zune HD: It works, but it’s buggy and censors tweets

Oh now this is exciting. Microsoft released a Twitter application for the Zune HD a few moments ago, and I’ve been tasked with testing it out for your edification. Spoiler: it works, it’s buggy, and I can’t see the sense in using it. Installation was not easy. Oh, sure, loading up the Zune software and navigating to the appropriate section was simple enough, and syncing the application was as expected, but my Zune HD wouldn’t connect to the Internet for whatever reason. An error message popped up saying “Disconnect your Zune HD from the computer before trying to connect to a wireless network.” To that effect, at…

Approval Policy for App Store Appears To Be Easing

Most iPhone users have no idea what an API is, let alone the difference between a public and a private one. But developers know that an application programming interface is not only important to how a smartphone app interacts with other software, but whether it will make the cut into the all-important, exponentially growing Apple App Store. As recently as last month Apple was aggressively weeding out apps that use a private API because they can cause compatibility problems. The Apple licensing agreement specifically notes that using a non-documented API is a violation of its terms. Now, there seems to be a crack in the armor. First came word that a Google app for the iPhone was allowed…

AdMob Launches Beta Ads For Palm WebOS

Though its had an application store of its own for many months now, Palm’s webOS has really yet to flourish as a development platform. As it currently stands, webOS’ App Catalog only offers up around 400 applications. This stunted growth is largely because Palm still considers the App Catalog “beta” – thus, they’re being rather selective with what gets in. Once the beta tag is pulled away, however, Palm expects a barrage of applications to hit their store. While plenty of these new apps are sure to be free, their developers still need to put food on the table. Looking to capture these developers before the floodgates open, AdMob is today announcing beta support for the webOS platform…

TomTom iPhone Application - Text-to-Speech

A few weeks ago we mentioned that the TomTom iPhone application would get an update, and that day is today. If you already have the application installed on your Apple phone, just update it and all of a sudden it has text-to-speech function? Pretty cool, right? It means the application is now able to pronounce street

Qik to come preloaded on the Samsung Omnia II

We like to keep an eye on the adoption of mobile video broadcasting applications around these parts. It’s a mighty competitive space, with Qik , Kyte , Flixwagon , UStream and a number of others all taking a stab at what is essentially the same idea. While the idea as a whole has yet to really take off as something that everyone does, its one that just about everyone seems to appreciate once it’s explained to them. Therein lies the challenge: how do you tell people that such services exist? One approach is to get it on the handsets right out of the box. If it’s hard to get them to come to you, why not go to them? The only one of the lot we’ve seen …

TUAW Review: Checkout, top notch Point of Sale software for Mac

Topics: Software , Cool tools , Reviews I had the opportunity to speak with the creators of Checkout : an excellent Point of Sale application for the Mac.
